phillyCHANGE currently operates two programs, Community Enhancement Program and our New Mentoring Program.

Mentoring Program

The phillyCHANGE Mentoring Program follows a monthly curriculum that focuses on assisting students in two areas:

Social Skills / Relationships with Others

Life Skills

phillyCHANGE believes that these are two very important areas/skills that can help individuals become successful in society today.

Community Enhancement Initiative

Members of phillyCHANGE conduct community service projects all throughout the city of Philadelphia promoting leadership and service.

phillyCHANGE envisions a community coming together to help a new generation excel.

History

phillyCHANGE Inc. was founded on July 18th 2007 by Sarah-Ashley Andrews and Keyon Mallory. It was founded in response to the times; both Keyon and Sarah-Ashley were deeply disturbed by the conditions of Philadelphia at that time. The murder rate was extremely high, and Philadelphia was on its way to becoming the murder capital of the country. The public school system was also not in good condition, in many schools there were not enough teachers to teach the students, and the children were way behind other children in the state of Pennsylvania and in the country.
Both Keyon and Sarah-Ashley attended Bloomsburg University. During their time at BU they both were very prestigious students. Keyon was the President of the Minority Organization of Righteous Educators, while Sarah-Ashley was the President of the Black Cultural Society, the two prominent minority organizations on campus. Through their respective organizations both Keyon and Sarah-Ashley brought about change to the students in Bloomsburg University, pushing and promoting education first and community service, acknowledging that there should be time to have parties in college, but only after those two were done first. In addition to over seeing their organizations, Keyon and Sarah-Ashley both sat on the Advisory Board of Bloomsburg University, which helped to make decisions for the minority students on campus.
Upon each of their return to Philadelphia Sarah and Keyon felt that there was a void and disconnect in the inner city of Philadelphia, and students were not being provided with the tools necessary for them to excel beyond there schools and communities. So they got together with a group of fellow college graduates from the city of Philadelphia to fill that void and found phillyCHANGE Inc., (Community Helping a New Generation Excel). phillyCHANGE partners with the Greater Philadelphia Urban Affairs Coalition (GPUAC) as non-profit IRS 501(c) 3 corporation.
